The 2021 US Open main draw runs from August 30 - September 12 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 141st time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Dominic Thiem is the men’s singles defending champion but has withdrawn following an injury. Naomi Osaka is the women’s singles defending champion and will be aiming to claim the title for the third time in four years. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time, he will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. With full capacity crowds back again, it’s time for the greatest return!

Yo guys, this is an insane feat. Not only did he beat diego in 5 (who’s top 15 and a disgustingly hard player to play against)

This monster played 3 matches in qualifying to even make it to the US open. What a machine. This guy also won every qualifying match a set down. I don’t think anyone can even come close to this. How crazy is that, I love tennis 🎾
Man, as an argie I think this unknown Van De Zandschulp should be really getting the necessary attention he needs. Just seeing the way he played this match, like an absolute top ten player, defeating nothing less than such an aggressive player as Diego is simply stunning.
This US Open has so far been the best Grand Slam of the past 10-15 years. And it ain't even over yet.

Schwartzman really be like: Beat me if you wanna jump start your career

VdZ - very intelligent player, "always" plays the right shot at the right time

You know why i like Schwartzman ?

B/c he fights for every point. If i were playing against him I'd underate him and say "this short guy can't beat me", only to be blown off the court. A very worthy sportsman indeed. Sad to see him loose against Botic Vdz.

Jeffrey Sisson:
Wow great battle! Congratulations to both players for giving it their all for five sets! So many epic matches this year, just incredible tennis.

John Jeffers:
I remember watching Botic VandeZan struggling in the second round of qualifying against this big American kid who just won the NCAA championship. He squeaked through that second set and just keeps on rolling like a snowball, picking up momentum and size. It's nice to see him finally "arriving" in his pro career. I bet you if he had languished about in the challenger level for another year, he would just start to accept that that is where his career will be.

Man never seen this guy before but he has a beautiful style of play and his looping swings and sure footwork is really nice on the eyes
Zandschulp is very calm 👏
Really hope he can make the semis so we can get yet another Karatsev story this year

Joel Byrd:
Shame this guy has to play Medvedev next. I love his style of play. He’d have a shot against most other Q-finalists but beating Daniil is impossible at the moment.
Lord Byron
Lord Byron:
I was rooting for Schwartzman ! Not too many guys at 5’7” make it this far. Most players are well over 5’11” ; so I gotta hand to him! But Van played very well . His game was methodical and rhythmic! He’d hit 4 shots with about 60% pace, then throw in a slice no pace ball, then he increases his pace to 80% and a 4-5 shots, then he’d throw in another no pace slice, then hit 4-5 shots at 80% He repeats this strategy. Which is a brilliant!

Amazing run from qualifiers by Botic vdZ, just incredible what's he achieved
Jorge Marín
Jorge Marín:
Amazing. A dude that has never reached these levels could've easily choked in the 5th, especially after letting slip a few match points in the 4th. But no, he comes back to win it in tremendous fashion. Kudos to him. Refreshing to see.

When Schwatzman clinched the 4th set, I thought surely the momentum would carry him to the 5th set. What a surprise.

Wow, I'm dutch and never knew vdZ had such talent! He turns out to be a very complete player, has all the shots, mixes it up etc. Impressive!
Wow, impressive that he was able to regroup and win it after he let him off the hook mentally.

It's a shame he's facing Medvedev next...
Lekker gewerkt pik!

Been rooting for D S. in almost every sport, tennis not excluded, it’s not easy being the physically smaller guy. He didnt lose the match cos i am sure he won a lot of respect and nods from the fans
De Zandschulp looks so easy in his game... If it's simple it's possible 👌✌️💥🔥

Up to this match, Botic lost the first set of every match he played in this tournament, including the qualifiers, before this match. And he nearly blew it away after winning the first 2 in this.

Botic van de Zandschulp and Max Verstappen, Great day for sportminded Dutchmen like myself :)
I don't know why. Zandschulp's temperament let me remind of the actor Jesse Eisenberg. Watching him play is a pleasure.

Finally some different player on the tour, great tactics skills and variations, and also awareness of the court spaces and how to use them, is very unlikely him to take a bad decision in a rally, amazing...

Forward ball cap guy beats backward ball cap guy! cvZ lost control for a time between the white to black forward ball cap color transition but once re-calibrated got back on track and took care of business. This has everything to do with ball cap configuration ;-) and of course, we all know that backward ball cap just looks silly!

Van de Zandschulp won 6(!!!) matches in a row from 0-1 set down. 3 qualifying matches and 3 main draw. What a huge mental power. Unfortunately, his streak will end against Medvedev, the Russian is too strong to anyone now.
