Prof. Dr. Dilhan Eryurt was a Turkish astrophysicist. She was born on November 29, 1926, in the Turkish city of Izmir. Dilhan initiated her doctoral research work at the University of Michigan and defended her Ph.D. thesis at the University of Ankara’s Department of Astrophysics subsequently. Dr. Eryurt was a renowned astrophysicist who made important contributions to scientific research on the formation and evolution of the Sun and other stars. She also worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA. Dr. Dilhan Eryurt's work at NASA’s Goddard Institute revealed hidden facts about the Sun. She received the Apollo Achievement Award in 1969 for her successful work that largely facilitated the Apollo 11 lunar mission. Today’s Google Doodle has been designed to honor the memory of this truly great woman space scientist.
