on bended knee is no way to be free
lifting up an empty cup, i ask silently
all my destinations will accept the one that's me
so i can breathe

circles they grow and they swallow people whole
half their lives they say goodnight to wives they'll never know
a mind full of questions, and a teacher in my soul
and so it goes

don't come closer or i'll have to go
holding me like gravity are places that pull
if ever there was someone to keep me at home
it would be you

everyone i come across, in cages they bought
they think of me and my wandering, but i'm never what they thought
i've got my indignation, but i'm pure in all my thoughts
i'm alive

wind in my hair, i feel part of everywhere
underneath my being is a road that disappeared
late at night i hear the trees, they're singing with the dead

leave it to me as i find a way to be
consider me a satellite, forever orbiting
i knew all the rules, but the rules did not know me

Rest In Peace Chris. They moved the Magic Bus today and has me revisiting your journey today. I hope you gained the knowledge you were searching for in your short life. I admire your ideals that materialism, money and greed are not the things that matter in our lives.
the saddest part is when Ron asks him to be his grandson. that broke my heart :(

I will never forget the way this movie made me feel. Everything.
The message of the movie is: Connect with people, share joy with others. Don't isolate yourself, even when society is not perfect.
He might of have died, but he LIVED more than most people do
Alexander supertramp is hidden in every man deep inside.
But we are not courageous to leave all the luxurious and live life with two hands and one head.
I think the best thing about reading comments on music videos is that the song is playing in the background while you are reading them. it makes it so much more meaningful and special

Even in 2020 this song is changing my life
This movie and the chris mccandless story single handedly changed my outlook on life.
I was 15 when I read this book, watched the movie, and learnt of Eddie's music. 10 years passed, and I still look back on how it made me feel at that time. The call of the wild.
I studied this film for English in my last year of high school. My grades had been steadily dropping since Year 10 and I had so many self esteem issues around my school work. I have ADHD and had no idea then. And then I watched this film, and somehow it all just clicked for me. Like literally just in a single moment. I put in more work that semester than I had in the rest of my years as a student and I wasn't stuck for a second. Somehow I was lucky enough to ace the end of year English exam, and now I'm doing my dream course at uni. I don't know how I would've gone if it were any other story. I'm so glad it was this incredible one.

"...the higher part of man's being is rejected altogether, dismissed with a sort of triumph, even with hatred. The world has proclaimed the reign of freedom, especially of late, but what do we see in this freedom of theirs? Nothing but slavery and self-destruction! For the world says:
"You have desires and so satisfy them, for you have the same rights as the most rich and powerful. Don't be afraid of satisfying them and even multiply your desires." That is the modern doctrine of the world. In that they see freedom. And what follows from this right of multiplication of desires? In the rich, isolation and spiritual suicide; in the poor, envy and murder; for they have been given rights, but have not been shown the means of satisfying their wants."

This song and story of Christopher leaves such a heavy feeling on me that I can't pin point. I'm just left in tears. I think it's all a mix of the sad fact Christopher had to die to find out that "happiness is real when shared", the way he got in touch with nature, the dream of leaving toxic consumerist society, living the ultimate life on the road and experiencing the purest of human pleasures, my own personal urge and fear to live the same way and be totally free. It really hits you and makes you question.

I remember years ago my ex girlfriend handed me the “Into the Wild” book. At the time I was fucking miserable. Hated what my life had become. I read that book in a couple of days and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I suddenly knew what I needed to be happy.

"If we admit that human life can be ruled by a reason, the possibility of whole life is destroyed"
this has so much deep meaning that i kept thinking of what am i doing with my life. Am i just working in a company earning money and paying bills? Is this what it mean to live a life or to be free?
James Prescott
James Prescott:
Since I was a child, all I ever wanted was freedom. I hadn't realized it then,
but my pursuits all lead back to that one simple concept. Everywhere I
turned was a prison or hurdle in my way. Roadblock after roadblock there
was no end to it. Quite disheartening to know that 70% of people born into
poverty never make it out. My dream was to one day walk into the woods
and survive. I didn't want luxuries, endless riches, supercars, etc.

I wanted freedom.

Finally many years later after seeing sarcastic remark after sarcastic
remark about Christopher McCandless, I decided to watch the movie.
His story did nothing but drive me forward. It told me that
I was on the right path, regardless of the consequences. It
wasn't the Alaskan Adventure that caught my eye, but the
journey leading up to it that moved me. The places he went,
the people he met, the many stories that were shared. This is
what I wanted in life. Freedom. Not working 9 - 5 for decades
of my life I cannot get back for a measly retirement that's not
guaranteed. I could die long before I got old from many causes.
I've lost count on the many times I've nearly drowned before I learned
how to swim.

I decided I was going to follow my own dreams.

I spent years in the bushcraft / survival communities. It was my
only hobby growing up besides video games. After a while, you start
to hear the same things repeated over and over, and I suppose that's
when I decided I was ready. I spent months preparing for my journey.

Creating a list of supplies, reworking that list, getting my hunting license,

game tags, etc etc. I bought my own gun, Savage Model 110 .270, and

the first time I held it filled me with awe and happiness.

I don't have the college education McCandless has. I don't have a loving
family or any friends that I leave behind. I'm no philosopher. I can't recall
quotes and books from memories. I didn't come from a wealthy family
either. Mine was abusive and poor. I grew up way below the poverty line.
Being hungry and looking at an empty fridge was a common event in
my life. Things were so poor that we made syrup sandwiches with tortillas
when there was no bread.

What I am is a human being. A person. With dreams beyond working my life
away. Beyond being a 'wage-slave'. Sleeping, eating, and working my life away
with nothing to show for it. Some people live like that having done absolutely
nothing all their lives. How this is acceptable to people I don't understand. When
people and children spend more time with their coworkers and peers at school
than they do their own families. That isn't right to me, and it's a life I refuse to live.

Today is Friday, June 28, 2019. Tomorrow, Saturday, June 29, 2019 I get on the train
to embark on the journey of a lifetime. Some may call me an idiot, foolish, and suicidal,
but I simply point out the double standards. No one calls anyone who joins the military
suicidal. No one calls a doctor who serves in war zones, knowing it may get him killed,
suicidal. No one calls the man who works and drinks his life and mental health away
suicidal. This is the only life I get, and I'll be damned if I spend it having wasted decades
throwing it away for pieces of paper we've given more worth than our own planet.

If I'm lucky and keep my wits about me, perhaps I'll see you all again January 1, 2020. If not,
then I would've died with no regrets. I've made my peace with my death a long time ago, and
I'm only curious about what's on the other side, if there is an other side.

I search for the one thing that's been denied to me my entire life, and that's freedom.

"There's no road to peace, peace is the road". I believe the same goes with happiness. One needs to be happy in their own skin before they can find happiness beyond themselves. And we are the only ones who can lead ourselves there. As Eddy said in a song with Pearl Jam " Me, I just figure as each breath goes by, I only own my mind. I am mine".

“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”

In this life we are not possessors of anything. Not even the body we have. Everything belongs to God and we must wisely administer this great gift. We arrive and leave without material possession, but be sure that our soul will absorb everything for what has passed. Lead wisely the goods of God in the dozens of lives you will have, for the more we share, the greater and richer we will be in the face of the riches that truly magnify. An endless road my friend, so learn to enjoy the trip and do not complain if rocks will arise.

This song embodies a man's struggle to go back to the simpliest way of life. The guitar and the perfect rendition is very moving ansd is particularly touching the heart and the gift of life. Going back to basic is knowing the freedom that we have in life. Easy living, simple life , basic necessities dont even matter. I praise eddie for the song and his rendition, i was touched , i was moved, i was inspired to go into the wild.

StOrM RiDeR:
Most of the people live by comparing their lives with others..this comparison is the thief of joy...
To be happy inside..to be a happy soul, learn to accept and forgive.
If our relationship with people is positive and strong..this definitely doubles the joy of ur inner self.
If this relationship is negative..how can you share ur joy at the first palce?
Due to the unpredictable nature of relationships.. it's better to be happy with ourselves...never let ur happiness depend on the ever changing surroundings..
Neither seek nor avoid, take what comes..
Life is about balancing our feelings with reality..keep doing that.. after those experiences..die with or without any regret.. after death our mind is pure nothingness so everything we experience are pointless at the end.. the truth is that we are insignificant reflections of the great creation..
It is our choice whether to live with the weight of emotions or live freely without attachments..both choice leads nowhere.
So everything looks different but they are same..Real or Unreal it doesn't matter..
Pure nothingness..

This film left a very large hole in my heart. I was grateful for his wisdom and the coolness of the loneliness he faced and the way he decided to leave the people who appreciated him in his greatest journey. I feel he has found an answer to the question of why he left his community, a bitter sweet that "happiness is real when you participate", but he no longer has the opportunity to participate anymore.

I think I need to watch this movie again. I've only seen it once...and I think it was beyond me at that time. It was released in 2007. So that was over 10 years ago. There was a lot the movie had to say. The main character was not depressed in the sense that people are depressed. It was a spiritual quest. Its sad that it ended in tragedy, but that was not his intent. He was searching for something more. And really there has to be something more. I hope he found it. It must have been horrible for his parents. He must have been a truly unique person. So many of us just 'fall' into the material world. And there we stay...lumps of flesh with no spirit. If he had of survived, who knows the wonderful things he would still be teaching us. I suppose the story teaches us so much. And all the people he met along the way on his journey. RIP
