Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here (1975)

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field

From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

My grandmother was dying of lung cancer and in her final days my father and I brought her home from the hospital so she could die peacefully in her own home. On the car ride back from the hospital she told me to turn on the radio so that she could "hear music one last time", and this song came on the radio. She would die later that evening, some songs are just more important than words man

3 years gone and this comment has 14.k likes, you guys are all my friends. I love you all
My dad would put this on everytime he thought of his younger brother that passed away too young. Now he too is gone, so I'll play it in memory of both of them.
Pink floyd are not a band. They are a feeling, a belonging. A soothing backdrop of life.

This song isn't just about losing someone: it's about losing the world you knew. Now living in a world where all your heroes are gone, nature is destroyed, there is no relief to the suffering you experience, that there is no change but only the things we do to numb the pain and try to feel comfortable. About how instead of trying to change things we accept complacency. It's about losing everything. And then on top of all this, losing those you love. That's where I am. I lost my best friend, and everyone I care about just keeps getting older until I inevitably lose them too. Innocence. Freedom. Sweet change. How I wish it was here.

My mother passed away this morning, this song is all I could think about after. Rip mom, we live, we love, we die! Love to all!
My father passed away this morning peacefully while Pink Floyd was playing...This used to be his favorite song by them. I was wearing my Dark Side of the Moon T-shirt during his last days and am also thinking about tattooing that album cover on my arm. Rest in peace dad, thank you for everything...I'll miss you.

My best friend was murdered during a home invasion on his home last October. Him and I shared a love for Pink Floyd. This song hits me like a freight train everytime since his passing. Music will never be the same. RIP Jimmy I love and miss you
Every time I hear this song, it takes me to being 3 years old and sitting on my teenage brother's bed with his friends, listening to this album. He is no longer on this earth but will always be in my heart ♥

That guitar entrance at 00:40 is just... earth shattering.. touches deep into the essence.. profound beyond words..

I still get chills every time I hear this song. I love it. But I fear how much meaning it has behind it. A true masterpiece.
When you realise the depth in the music and lyrics it hits you differently, it's so more than a timeless piece of rock history. It's much more.....

This is the type of song that follows you through life and remains as relevant at 75 as it did when you were 15.
My mother passed away 2 years ago after battling cancer for 5 years. My depression after was a roller coaster ride that I kept pushing further and further down and thought to myself “I’m okay, I’m fine”.
I only realized and came to terms with the severity of it after pushing my first love, my everything, my soulmate, the only friend I really had, away. These days I wish I was up there or wherever we go, with my mother. Life really is full of suffering.

Pink Floyd is one of the best bands of all time. There music is just unbelievable. Their sound, meaning and everything is so beautiful and comforting but yet, sad too.

I never gave Pink Floyd a proper listening to, until after my grandfather died. I had always hear this song and thought of it as the song with the fish bowl in it, now that he's gone, I can't help but think of him and all of the friends and family I have lost during my 29 years on this earth. It's strange and amazing how music can gain subjective meaning through time.
The worst feeling isn't being lonely, it's being forgotten by someone you'd never forget.
I'm still here, old loves.

Reading the comments. This song means so much to so many. I have my story too. Here's to all of you who've come here, it's a good place to remember , where sorrow and joy mingle. I salute you all. May your pain be eased in this place. May your love never fade.

Sometimes you don’t have to necessarily lose a loved one to miss them I just had to move over 600 miles away and me and my best friend who is more like a brother to me always shared a love for Pink Floyd it’s hard not being 5 minutes away anymore wish you were here to sit outside have a smoke and a drink and just blast Pink Floyd

My brother passed away back in November at the age of 22 in Chicago he was shot to death in front of our mother and his kids . I wasn’t able to process his death for a while. So I come to this song to feel the emotions I’m hiding from. Me and my little brother would listen to this song late nights
Downtown off Lake Michigan off some good Lsd and talk about the future. Long live your essence and soul little bro you’ll never be forgotten thank you Pinkfloyd

This song saved my life... My wife left me after 5 years of marriage, my mother died 3 days after my divorce, my father got drug addicted and died, and I lost my job... I've tried to kill myself several times. And when I tried to attempt to kill myself with a shotgun I suddenly heard Pink floyd Wish you were here on my radio... At that moment I smiled after 3 month's... And now Im married again to a beautiful wife, I have a son and a daughter, I got my job back and Im positive in live.... This song gave me so much love it filled up a hole in my heart. After all the things I lost in life I knew I had to let go and live my life. Without that song wish you were here, I wouldn't be here were I'm now.

Edit: Thank you all so much for the support guys. I would love to reply to all the comments individually but there’s a lot of them. You should know that those comments made me feel so much better about it all and less alone.

For the doubters: I wish it wasn’t real but unfortunately it is! I gain nothing from lying about such a tragedy. It would take a very sick individual to do such a thing.

Wish you here, to all my friends lost over the years, damn the memories are too good. Pink Floyd was there for us creating memories and head trips that can be only be shared in their music. RIP Rick Clawson, that trip we took to Dallas to see Pink Floyd in the early 80's was the greatest experience of my life, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals in their entirety. Seen them several times since then, but that was a magical experience.

the opening riff is so purely melancholic that i choke up as soon as it starts playing. my dad's dad passed away when my dad was 17, he's now almost 50 and this song came on in the car the other day and he didn't say anything he just turned the volume up a little bit and i could honestly feel the sorrow in the air. he's never mentioned the song or anything before, and he didn't tell me it reminded him of his dad or anything, but i could just tell by the simple gesture of him turning it up that he was going to have a moment of remembrance to himself and man, i really wanted to cry for him. this song makes me think of when my dad will eventually pass away and i'll hear this song some day after and it will bring me back to that car ride.
The day was a hot and busy one so I took a break lit a smoke and watched the sun sink into the west and as a cool breeze brushed me….. this song came on, my workday was done……. A beautiful moment in my life
