It’s another few ways to beat Novak, aside from out dueling from the baseline like Medvedev and Nadal does, or going full power, destroying the ball like Thiem and Wawrinka.

The strategy to beat Novak has always been to neutralize his return. With a wide stance while receiving behind the baseline, Novak is able to pivot on both legs to generate pace and depth in returns that are almost unthinkable.
The only antidote to this is serving deep in the box on the look out for body serves, and not wide. With Novak's wide stance, your returns are compromised when body serves aim your centre of gravity, thus limiting your movement. As an immediate reaction (as with even the great Rafa at times) someone like Novak would take a couple of steps back from the baseline to tackle this, thus opening up the court for you to move in with your variety.
That's the reason why I always felt Roger was his biggest competitor (and their matches always delivered). Even against peak Novak, and his own game waning with age, Roger is an absolute tactical genius on court to understand this like a game of chess, commit Novak to go back, and then himself coming in to the net to stamp his brilliance. Even Nick Kyrgios was successful with this approach, and we all know he has a very effective body serve.
